UI/UX Designer

Do you create innovative designs and user interactions that enhance and simplify the user experience? Do you have a passion and drive for designing exceptional user-centered enterprise applications? As a UI/UX Designer with Chasm Communications, you will apply your design skills and solid knowledge of user experience principles to make functional, beautifully simple web-based business tools.

Location: Tampa, FL

Position Overview

The UI/UX Designer will work closely with our professional team and clients to visually and creatively conceptualize, develop, complete and deliver rich user experiences across a variety of platforms and devices. Typical activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitating workshops and exercises to assist with idea generation and decision-making
  • Creating sketches, wireframes, and designs based on a solid understanding of business requirements, UI patterns, and visual design principles
  • Mapping out, visualizing and testing application flow to identify gaps and ensure consistency
  • Collaborating with developers to answer questions and build a design system
  • Developing, designing and establishing a standard set of UI patterns
  • Conducting user research and testing

The ideal candidate will be naturally creative and imaginative with the technical ability to translate our clients’ requirements into an engaging visual solution that is both appealing and intuitive for users. The UI/UX Designer will be expected to easily function both independently and collaboratively, bringing fresh thinking, an open mind and a strong work ethic to the position.

Technical Skills Requirements

The UI/UX Designer must be able to:

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of UI/UX best practices and the unique constraints and idioms of complex, data-intensive enterprise application design
  • Deliver a great user experience, in terms of visual appeal, intuitiveness, ease of use, device independence, and style
  • Utilize design, wireframing, and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Axure, and InVision
  • Function efficiently within Agile development environments
  • Spot emerging UI/UX trends and apply techniques effectively
  • Work with both Mac and PC platforms

The right candidate for this position will be highly motivated, energetic and creative with a can-do attitude. In addition to the technical skills outlined above, the UI/UX Designer must possess:

  • A strong, clean visual design sense
  • Pixel perfect attention to details
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to collaborate and articulate ideas effectively in a team environment
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills relating to the design, creation, and testing of applications
  • The ability to:
    • Clearly articulate and defend design rationale
    • Collaborate closely, and influence design decisions with, product managers, other experience designers, engineers and business stakeholders
    • Multi-task and be flexible in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
    • Manage multiple projects with competing priorities
    • Work additional hours to meet deadlines, if required
    • Problem-solve, work independently and as part of team, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
    • Work under tight deadlines with accuracy and speed
    • Improve with constructive criticism and relish positive feedback

This position requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time. Additionally, this position requires vision correctable to 20/20, good depth perception, and color vision to complete the visual components of the job.

Education / Experience Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or user interface designer
  • Bachelor Degree in UI/UX Design, Web Design, Graphic Design or related field
  • Proficient in illustration, mock-up software (Preferably Sketch or Illustrator)
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
